"My images are not staged nor manipulated they are captured in situ. I strive to capture the idiosyncrasies of our society through the collision of artifacts of urban living and astute visual story telling.
I am particularly interested in the concept of the photographer's delight, where at the moment of exposure the camera captures details that the photographer could not possibly pre-conceive. Embracing chance enables my images to breathe with sophistication from competing focal points, secondary narratives, subtle textures, and a sea of lush content. I push this concept to the limit by producing images that are over a Giga-pixel in resolution and prints that reveal detail at nose-length.
Verging on the hyper-real, my images lead photography into a practice of image making where the subject is decentralized and every minute detail holds equal weight as a brush stroke does to canvas." --Eric Deis
Deis was born on a Canadian military station in the Queen Charlotte Islands. He is a graduate of Emily Carr Institute of Art + Design, Vancouver (B.F.A.) and the University of California, San Diego (M.F.A.). His contemporary art has been exhibited in Canada, Denmark, Germany, Mexico, Serbia, Sweden, and the United States of America.
